Dazed Cannabis, a Black and veteran-owned dispensary, has opened its second store — its first in Manhattan, New York.

Founded by Keshawn Warner, Rich Rainone and Chris Vianello, the brand has one store in Holyoke, Massachusetts. It opened a successful pop-up on April 20, 2023, ultimately convincing them to open an N.Y. store.

“Keshawn and his dedicated team at Dazed exemplify entrepreneurship in action, shining a spotlight on the importance of social equity in the cannabis industry,” said Chris Webber of the New York Social Equity Cannabis Investment Fund.

New York's Social Equity Cannabis Investment Fund helps individuals impacted by the disproportionate enforcement of cannabis prohibition laws and equips suitable real estate for retail adult-use cannabis dispensaries.

The fund will help those who have a CAURD license meet the costs of establishing adult-use cannabis retail dispensaries, including the identification and leasing of suitable retail locations and design, construction, and fit-out of the spaces.

With an investment from Chicago Atlantic, the state of New York has raised at least $200 million for the initiative.

In a pedestrian-friendly area between 14th and 17th streets, Dazed Cannabis hopes to capitalize on the foot traffic around the store. The square is surrounded by retail stores, restaurants, and offices, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists.

The area features a mix of well-known brands, boutique shops, and specialty stores, offering everything from clothing and accessories to home goods and electronics. Moreover, the Union Square Greenmarket, held multiple times a week, is a major attraction, featuring local farmers and vendors selling fresh produce, artisanal products, and more.

The opening is just the beginning, the company says. They plan to open four more dispensaries on the East Coast over the next year.

“This isn’t just about a dispensary; it’s about levelling the playing field, creating opportunities, and building a more inclusive and dynamic entrepreneurial landscape. Keshawn’s journey shows why programs like this are essential,” Webber said.
