Black Dollar Magazine and Futurpreneur are teaming up to tell the stories of three Black entrepreneurs who have come through the organization’s Black Entrepreneur Startup Program.

“We are thrilled to welcome Futurpreneur to the BDM family,” Jordan Maxwell, publisher of Black Dollar Magazine, said in a statement. “We created this publication to tell the stories of talented Black entrepreneurs in Canada and the U.S. and give them representation and visibility for showing up as they are, with their dreams unlocked. At Black Dollar Magazine, we tell poignant stories about the everyday person trying to make it. These entrepreneurs who have come through the Black Entrepreneur Startup Program are putting themselves on the map. We’re happy to support Futurpreneur in telling their stories.”

The program supports aspiring Black entrepreneurs between 18 and 39 with financing, mentorship, resources, and networking opportunities.

Launched in March 2021, Futurpreneur's Black Entrepreneur Startup Program is funded by @RBC with additional loan financing from @BDC.

It provides up to $60,000 in startup loan financing and up to $40,000 of follow-on financing after two years.

Mentees will receive two years of one-on-one mentorship, access to a national network of Black entrepreneurs and community-led groups, and help to prepare a business plan and cash flow template to scale the business.

According to research by Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada in the fall of 2020, Black business owners have more difficulty accessing capital than other entrepreneurs — a problem Black entrepreneurs said was the most significant hurdle facing them as they work to launch and build successful businesses.

“At Futurpreneur, we love to help amplify the success of our entrepreneurs, and it is with great pleasure that we are partnering with Black Dollar Magazine to do so! Since launching our Black Entrepreneur Startup Program in 2021, we are proud to have supported the launch of more than 275 Black-owned businesses in Canada and are excited for what’s to come!”
