Black-owned artist collective Tila Studios has received a $100,000 grant from Intuit Mailchimp.

The arts organization received the funds from the Atlanta-based tech company as part of a $1 million pledge to support the city’s local arts community. It was one of 10 diverse arts organizations to receive funds.

“As a local creative organization, it means a lot to get support from a local tech giant like Inuit Mailchimp,” Tiffany Latrice, executive director of Tila Studios, told Rough Draft Atlanta. “Oftentimes, organizations like Tila, with a specific mission and focus on supporting underrepresented artists, are often overlooked and don’t receive investments from major corporations.

“We’re not just a creative organization, but we’re also a Black organization, and a creative Black women’s organization at that, so the opportunities to receive funding the way that other businesses or organizations do are not as plentiful. I’m glad that Intuit Mailchimp sought to invest its money in the local creative community. It means a lot that they see us and support our ambitious vision to uplift and amplify the voices of Black women artists.”

Intuit Mailchimp also chose to award ArtsATL, Dashboard, Living Walls, Moving in the Spirit, RE:IMAGINE, True Colors Theatre, Atlanta Music Project, MODA, and Atlanta Contemporary. Each organization will receive a $100,000 grant.

The grant from Intuit Mailchimp comes at a good time for Tila Studios. In March, Tila Studios partnered with Domain Capital Group, based in Atlanta, to provide a platform for artists of diverse backgrounds to showcase their work outside traditional galleries. It also announced its Garden Fellowship 2023–2024 in June. The Garden Fellowship is a 15-month program that aids Black women visual artists in advancing their careers. Latrice says the grant will go toward the fellowship.

Lain Shakespeare, senior director of corporate citizenship at Intuit Mailchimp, said that small to medium-sized arts organizations are the heartbeat of Atlanta’s creative economy.

“Many of these arts organizations are our customers, our partners, and the places ‌where our employees volunteer. We’re proud to help power their prosperity and help grow creative excellence in our hometown,” Shakespeare said.
